Big Bear Getaway House.

We’ve been lucky enough to stay at the Getaway House on four separate occasions. Thankfully, we have another family trip planned for July of this year.

The Getaway House is a way to enjoy the outdoors with all the comforts of a tiny home. The design is simple yet modern: it includes a queen sized bed placed right in front of a large wall sized window, a kitchen with a dinette and a bathroom with a shower. The outside portion has a bonfire grill with seating and a picnic table.

Currently there are 30 locations to choose from in the United States and this number continues to grow. We had the pleasure of visiting the Big Bear (Los Angeles, CA) and the Skagit Valley (Seattle, WA) location. The Skagit Valley location deserves a post of it’s own, so be on the look out for that adventure!

We highly suggest purchasing the Getaway Often Packs – which allows you to book at a cheaper nightly rate. Make sure you choose the pack that fits your vacation needs. We typically purchase the 6 nights anytime combo pack which is currently called: The Freetimer. When we originally purchased the Getaway Often Packs it allowed us to book at any location-this is no longer the case. Now, whenever you purchase a Getaway Often Pack you must choose a location and those credits can only be used at that specific location. For example, the Big Bear-LA location is $950 for the 6 nights Freetimer Pack but the Homochitto-New Orleans location is $650 for the same exact pack. Some Getaway Often Packs allow you to use the credits in a specific region. For example, the North East Region will allow you to use credits at these six locations: Catskills East, Western Catskills, Blake Brook, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Alum Springs.

At first, the new rules on the Getaway Often Pack was a bummer for us since we like visiting new areas but the location specific rules kind of grew on us. The Getaway Often Packs encourage us to take a break from the everyday grind. If you feel you need a reset you can use a few of the credits you have to give yourself some peace. Getaway Often Packs expire 2 years from your purchase date-but you are able to book beyond the expiration date. For example, if you have two credits that expire on February 5th 2023. You are allowed to book two nights for March 2023 but only if you complete the booking prior to February 5th 2023.

Why do we love the Getaway House?

#1 Comfort. We love the outdoors, hiking, adventuring and camping but sometimes it’s nice to sleep on a comfortable mattress with the heater or air conditioning on full blast-especially after a 10 mile hike. They have additional add-ons for a fee to make your life easier once you get there: firewood, s’mores, activity packs, and even some grocery type items. We always stop by the grocery store before reaching our Getaway but you could purchase their provisions if you don’t want to think about making a grocery stop. Below are some of our delicious eats and treats that we bring and make at the cabin.

#2 Beauty. We love their jaw-dropping onsite nature trail(s) they create within their location. You do not have to leave the grounds to go on a nature walk. We just lock our Getaway House and walk directly to the nature trail.

#3 Dog Friendly. Our top reason for coming back again and again is that Getaway House is completely dog friendly. Tyrion, Mia & Iroh have had the pleasure of being a guest at the Big Bear location and they have nothing but around of a-paws to give.

Side note: If you are going during the winter please note that if there is a lot of snowfall most trails will be closed/snowed in. We were able to walk around the Getaway House roads but the onsite nature trail was covered in a gorgeous untouched blanket of snow. In fact, all the trails in the area were temporarily closed. During our most recent trip even our outdoor area was hidden due to the heavy snowfall from the previous weeks.

Complete snow covered grounds – no outdoor furniture in sight.

We hope you enjoyed reading about our tiny stay & remember to prioritize your peace! Get outdoors and make memories big and small.
Love,
Mamas.
